The purpose of this web-site is to provide the means of collecting and displaying historic information about the community life of Ukrainian Canadians in Alberta.
To date, I have identified a substantial number of "Ukrainian" churches that have a visible physical presence on Alberta's landscape. However, there are many religious buildings have been either decommissioned or torn down. There is a need to know about these forgotten places so as to resurrect the history of a forgotten community.
With churches, there are cemeteries. There are many cemeteries in Alberta that "Ukrainians" are primarily buried. However, I believe there are a few more cemeteries I have not located (or do not know about yet).
In addition, there are many different types of structures that have played an important role in the development of the Ukrainian community in Alberta. Community halls, learning centres, schools, labour-farm temples are a few examples where there is very little information.
I have created this site in the hope that it will allow visitors to read about the various historical contributions made by Ukrainians to Alberta. Also, I hope the reader will be able to corroborate, refine or provide better information about the various components of Ukrainian contributions in Alberta.
